The World’s Best Vegetable Restaurants 2020

The Catalan chef Xavier Pellicer has been recognized as this year’s “Plant Based Untouchables Chef”

The Belgian organization We’re Smart has presented their anual list of the best vegetable restaurants in the world, “Top 100 Best Vegetable Restaurantes 2020”, which forms part of their “We’re Smart Green Guide”.

The organization’s objective is to provide information about the culinary world of vegetables in order to promote more intelligent and sustainable solutions and consumption habits as related to our diets and the environment.

With 19 restaurants on the list, Belgium is the country with the most representation, followed by France with 13 establishments and Holland with 10. Other well-represented countries were the United States with nine restaurants and the United Kingdom with seven.

Spain has six restaurants on the list of the world’s best vegetable restaurants. Two of them are located in Barcelona, The Green Spot (28) and Gatblau (47). Another two can be found in Madrid, El Invernadero (36) and La Bien Aparecida (90). There is also a Valencian locale on the list, the 2 Michelin Star restaurant Ricard Camarena (33), along with Eneko Atxa’s world famous 3 Michelin Star establishment, Azurmendi (83), which is located in Larrabetzu (Bilbao).

Additionally, the organization has recognized Catalan chef Xavier Pellicer with the “Plant Based Untouchables Chefs” award. His self-named restaurant, which is located in Barcelona, focuses on innovation within plant-based cooking and was recognized for two consecutive years as the World’s Best Vegetable Restaurant.
